Angling and fishing on Lake Weissensee

Staying together at the Franzerl

Angling groups of 6 to 14 people will find the Franzerl the ideal place to stay. Everybody together in an exclusive holiday home on the lake!

The private jetty is only 50 metres away. As it is reserved exclusively for your group you are not likely to get into conflict with any swimmers. A rowing boat and two canoes are available for your free use. Further rowing boats are available for hire from Bootsverleih Domenig, located some 850 m from the property. You can store your fishing tackle conveniently in the bike store right next to the house.

There is a large stainless steel sink at the back of the house where you can gut and prepare the fish. If you make a good catch, you can store it in the freezer (98 litre, 4 trays) in the kitchen. Or you can cook your freshly caught fish there and then on the barbeque on the terrace!

Angling permits can be purchased from the Weissensee tourist office. The angling season on Lake Weissensee generally starts on 10 May and ends on 31 October, apart from ice fishing.

Lake Weissensee is considered one of the most beautiful fishing lakes in the Alps. The crystal clear waters are inhabited by freshwater whitefish, pike, brown trout, zander, chub, perch, tench, carp, bleak, Arctic char and many other premium edible fish. Altogether, there are 22 species of fish to be found in the lake.

You can fish anywhere in the fjord-like Lake Weissensee, two-thirds of whose shoreline is totally undeveloped. The fishing permit covers the entire lake.

The different lake depths, ranging from 5 to 99 metres, allow for all types of angling.

In addition, there are angling events taking place on Lake Weissensee every year. First and foremost there is the traditional international event fishing for the “Goldene Forelle vom Weissensee”, the Weissensee golden trout, which takes place in the spring. Throughout the season, a list of the heaviest catches is maintained as well. In the autumn, a competition is held fishing for pike and perch. In late winter, ice fishing is on the agenda. Visitors to Lake Weissensee can attend seminars on the sport and perfect their own angling skills under the watchful eye of an angel guide.
